Freeman's Journal
« on: Tuesday 23 August 11 12:36 BST (UK) »
Could someone be able to help me please?

Looking for information on the name Dower which was reported in The Freeman's Journal on the following dates...
5 February, 1821, page 3 (a trial) with two occurrences of the name Dower.
16 April 1822 page 4. another trial with one occurrence of the Dower name.
11 April 1822 page 4, there was a petition with the name Dower indexed once.

If anyone could provide me with what those reports said then I would be most grateful.

Thank you.

John...Sydney

Hi Vabre,

As you give your location as Sydney, Australia you are able to apply for a National Library of Australia card which will enable you to research numerous Irish newspapers online, one of which is the Freeman's Journal.

Cheers,

Janet.

Thank you Janet,

I have a readers ticket  and I just found out that the dates I am after are missing  ???

The State Library is shut at the moment for renovations so when they re-open in a few weeks time I will have to go into the city ::) and search at the library.

Many thanks for your reply.

Vabre,

The Freeman's Journal that I refer to in my post is available online at the National Library of Australia, (Canberra) - not the State Library of New South Wales, (Sydney).

You are able to apply for a readers card on the link previously provided.

Cheers,

Janet.

Most Freeman's Journal editions are archived also on

Putting in "Dower" for 1821 and 1822 actually gives me different dates to yours i.e.
July 2 1821
Aug 15 1822
Aug 26 1823 (not sure why this came up in an 1821 and 1822 search).
