HILDRETHs of Co. Durham, Yorkshire, Northumberland
« on: Tuesday 23 August 11 15:26 BST (UK) »
I have done a lot of research on the Hildreths of the north-east and I attach a 15 page paper discussing the origin and spread of the name and so on, which I hope will be of interest.
I would love to hear from you if you are researching this name and have got back before about 1750.

Hi,
Just found and read your file on the Hildreth family.

Going to your section 7.7 Francis born 1714 and his son Richard baptised 10 Oct 1749.  I believe this is my 4th great grandfather, making Francis my 5th Great Grandfather.

Richard who was a weaver married Elizabeth Lee 03 Jul 1772 at Kirkdale.  Richard and Elizabeth had 6 children.  Francis born 1776, Sally (Sarah) as she was later known born 1780, Hannah born 1782 and died 1782, William born 1783, Thomas born 1785, and Richard born 1792.  My line is through Thomas (1785) who married Mary Harker.  The surname Hildreth was also spelt on records as Hildreath, Ildreath and ended up as Hildrick on my line.

Richard was buried at Kirkdale 16 Apr 1833, and his wife Elizabeth was also buried at Kirkdale 21 Nov 1830.

Kind Regards
Elaine

How very interesting--thank you so much for this, Elaine. It is disconcerting that the surname mutated so late. Are we 10th cousins?!

Hi Steven,
Thank you for your reply.  I am not sure what cousins we are at the moment.  I will be very busy most of today, but will get back to you later with a p.m.
Kind Regards
Elaine
