John Butler Marriage - Possibly Horningsea c1800
« on: Tuesday 23 August 11 19:23 BST (UK) »
Hello All
I have a John Butler who had 7 children between 1803 and 1818 in Horningsea, Cambridge.  He himself was born there in 1782.  I can't find his marriage though.  On the CFHS baptism index, the childrens mother's name was Alice.  Can anyone help find her maiden name please?  The marriage would have taken place between 1800 and 1803 given John's birth year of 1782 and his first born son, Samuel's brith in 1803.  John is on his own in the 1841, 51 and 61 census and he died in 1864, so I suspect Alice died after 1818 (last child born) and 1841.

Thanks
Brenda

Edit: I have a note of the death of an Ellis Butler aged 47 in Horningsea in 1829.  I think this might be Alice.

I expect you know that John Butler's parents were William Butler and Alice Cooper. Couldn't find the marriage you were looking for though.
regards.

Yes, I think those are his parents, they had a number of children in Horningsea.  I've just ordered the PR's for both Horningsea and Bottisham today, as William was originally from Bottisham.  Thanks for looking for John and Alice/Ellis though!

Selina You might have nailed it!  Fen Ditton borders both Horningsea and Bottisham.... plus John had a brother named Samuel!

Thanks a bunch.  I should be able to check it out properly myself once the PR cd's arrive as Fen Ditton is included with Horningsea.

Cheers,
Brenda
