In the Bath area, Coombe could refer to Combe Down, Monkton Combe or Combe Hay.

Abraham son of William and Hannah Wiltshire was baptised at Monkton Combe, 12 Nov 1786

Combe Down was a relatively new settlement which had grown up around the stone quarries on the top of the hill to the south of Bath. It did not have its own church at that time and Monkton Combe's would have been one of the nearest, so the Wiltshires could have lived at either place.

on Abrahams convict records1845 it states he was 21, but ages are different on some cert, so can't be sure what year he was born,it also gives on those records  his mother, sister, and brothers names. one of his children over here in aus he named Elijah.,same as his brother, it would be great to see the names on a census, then i could be pretty sure i had the right family. It states on  the record the other person charged with Abraham was from Camerton, Thanks for your help

Hi Rainybell,

I note that at the Bath Sessions on the 4 Apr 1840 an Abraham WILTSHIRE aged 55 and a Susan WILTSHIRE aged 40 were convicted of keeping a disorderly house. They received 1 month and sureties and a £3 fine

also several mentions of an Elizabeth WILTSHIRE b about 1827 and a Caroline WILTSHIRE b about 1826. In fact 22 Mar 1841 an Elizabeth WILTSHIRE aged 14 and Caroline WILTSHIRE 17 were found not guilty of Larceny.

Thank you Kris, I'm so excited, as they sound like the wiltshire's that I'm after, but my goodness it's a  wonder they all didn't get sent to Australia, perhaps I better look up those names on the convict list over here. The 1841 census looks right as when Abraham was in goal in 1840 it gives his last abode as milk st bath. The 1851 look right as well with the names Susanna, Elisha probably Elijah and Caroline. Great work everyone  Rainybell

Looks like Elisha(Elias on census) stayed home,is on 1901 census as well, but cannot find a baptism for him.Might be worth contacting Somerset Online Parish Clerk as they have a clerk for one Walcot church.
