1851 census lookup
« on: Wednesday 04 May 05 19:26 BST (UK) »
Hello, can anyone please help me find some of my ancestors on the  1851 census in Macclesfield. The first family are a Susannah Fowell who had a son James Fowell who would have been 8 or 9 at the time and born in Sutton, Macclesfield. James's father was James Thornely but I don't know if he married Susannah.

The second family are a Peter Hughes who would have been 41 or 42 at the time and born in Holywell, Wales. He was married to Hannah who would have been 40 or 41 at the time and born in Wildboarclough, Cheshire. They also would have had a daughter, Esther who would have been about 14 at the time and born in Manchester, a son, Peter who would have been about 9 at the time and born in Salford, Lancs, a son Thomas who would have been about 2 at the time and born in Macclesfield and a son Hugh who would only have been a matter of months old at the time (as he was 10 at the next census) and born in Macclesfield.

Thanks

Hi Kena
I have found the Hughes family but not the Fowells, there seems to be only one family of that name indexed on the 1851 in Macclesfield, I will go back and check again just incase it has been transcribed as Powell or may come under Thorneley ?

1851 HO107-2158-FOLIO 315  Davies Street Hurdsfield Macclesfield

Peter Hughes head 40 silk weaver Holywell Flint
Hannah          wife 40                     Wildboarclough
John                son 17 silk spinner  Macclesfield
Esther            daug 15 ~  piecer               ~
Ann                 ~     12  ~    ~                    ~
Peter              son 10   ~     ~                   ~
Thomas          ~     3                       Hurdsfield
Hugh              ~     1                             ~

hope this helps

Thanks very much for the info that's great. It adds another name to my family tree as I never knew about Ann before.
