John JANE
« on: Sunday 28 August 11 16:27 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to trace information about my great grandfather John Jane and his family.  He was born at Nine Oaks, St Ive, near Callington, Cornwall in 1865/6.  In the 1871 Census he is at Durnaford Farm with his Uncle and Aunt Nathanial Hurrell and Mary Richards Hurrell.

He married Annie Margaretta Lobb at St Enoder, Cornwall on 21st September 1891 and they had 4 children.  Annie Margaretta Lobb Jane was my grandmother, also there was Leonard Jane and Dorothy May Jane.  I cannot trace the 4th child.

He must have left Durnaford around 1900 as on the 1901 census he is at Mount near Perranpoth, Cornwall and in 1911 he is at Chapple near St Columb, Cornwall.

I know that later in life they lived at New Mills. Ladock near Truro, Cornwall.

I cannot trace his birth parents or where he died although I understand it may have been at a hospital or old peoples home in the Falmouth area.

Does anyone have any informatiion regarding this.

baptism of Mary, wife of Nathaniel

http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=baptisms&id=1300347

The Keasts moved to St Mellion & have more children baptised there

But I haven't found a baptism for Ann Hawke Keast, wife of Samuel Jane, as yet.

well, I don't think Catherine is a sister of Mary Richards Keast, so the relationship might be a bit further away.

Galapagos, is any of this info of use to you?  Could you say either way, assuming you have read the replies in one of your visits to the site since the info was posted?

Hi

Yes this information is very useful and supports what I have previously found.  The problem I have is that on his marriage certificate he quotes his fathers name as John Jane.  I do not think this is correct as I think his father was Samuel Jane.

He was born at St Ive and I can only find 2 John Janes born at St Ive at this time.  One to Samuel Jane and Ann Hawke and one to Mary Jane who was unmarried.  I think Marys child died in December 1865.

I am trying to check and double check the information I have as I can trace him during the middle of his life but not his birth or his death.  I am told he lived into his 90s.

As he was raised by his aunt and uncle is it possible he did not actually know his fathers name?

Thanks for all your help.
