the Mitchell MI's for NE fife are pre 1855, however when names appear on newer graves we sometimes find them as in this one:

Kilmany churchyard stone 5:
.....May also three brothers...; william kirkcaldy 1/6/1844, wife Agnes brunton 2/12/1865; Thomas kirkcaldy 13/5/1878 (age 77); janet kirkcaldy mar 1875 age 92.

13th is the burial date so i think its the right one.

Hi Diddymiller sorry a bit of confusion there, someone has a tree on ancestry that says thomas kirkaldie died 1858 parents where william/ agnes burton and thomas was married to katherine henderson well i was trying to clear up my confusion here goes i will explain
thomas born 1779 parents where thomas kirkaldie and mary thomson he is my direct ancestor and it this thomas that was married to katherine henderson i am not sure where this thomas died but i have found a opr death record for denhead 1852 the age is correct
As for katherine the death  details that the tree owner had for katherine was correct as i checked the dc on scotland people
maybe both my thomas and katherine are together in kilmany but there is no stone do you know if there is anyone i can contact to find out
the last record i have on them is the 1851 cencus living and working springfield house cuper with 3 of there children
hope this clears up the confusion
many thanks sarnia23
