Adelaide Mary Farrell(or Ferrell) born circa 1850
« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 19:28 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with the early history(parents, birth, siblings, marriage) of Adelaide Mary Farrell or Ferrell.                                                                           I currently first find her in an 1871 census in a draper's in Liverpool, only identified as"Miss Farrell" along with a David Jones(David Raymond Jones or David Rayment Jones) of Abergele,North Wales, whom she presumably marries and certainly has a family with. Her birth circa 1850 is given variously as Ireland or Dublin Ireland or even Ireland,Sligo.
They have a number of children, but one-Emily Frances-is born in Dublin on 26/2/1878.                                                                                                     She may be connected to the Farrells of Caellepa,Bangor,North Wales.

Adelaide's birth was before the start of civil records in Ireland so you will need to check parish records. I would start the search in England and follow up the marriage to confirm her father's name, and also search for her on later census returns to see if you can locate one which gives a more detailed place of birth.

Ideally you will need to know which town or parish she was baptised in to start a search for church records. You also need to know what denomination her family were.

Thanks for the links.
I have her in later censuses as Adelaide Jones but there is no greater clarification re birth nor can I find her marriage. In the IGI record of her daughter in Ireland she is listed as Adelaide Mary Ferrell Jones, but by this time she has had other children with her husband in England/Wales.I have tried looking for a Mary Ferrell/Farrell marriage, but no luck either.
Do you know if there was any tradition of emigrants to Australia naming their daughters Adelaide?
Thanks again
Roger

It's odd that they both class themselves as widows in 1901 and he is an inmate in the workhouse? Is that the right man?

I can't see who else this could be,but there are other confusing data at this time.A David Raymond Jones appears back in North Wales in the registers of the St. Asaph workhouse approx. 1908-1910,but the birthdate indication given is that of his son David Chambers Jones.Further, the children probably associated with the son's marriage have David Raymond Jones specified as the father.Either the son has mistakenly or otherwise put his father's(rather than the father's) name down or,he is perhaps David Chambers Raymond Jones.
I cannot confidently identify either of them in the 1911 census nor any subsequent death records, and Adelaide Jones(Ireland) appears to be in Montgomeryshire(no known connections)!
