Richard Baker -Bedwellty
« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 21:13 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for information on my wife's gt-gt grandfather Richard Baker who was born abt 1852. He married Mary Ann Preddy in Monmouth and later moved to the Bedwellty where the couple had a son William George Baker born abt 1878.  I understand that on William's birth certificate his father Richard's occupation was shown as a policeman.   Any information on the family would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Thanks Cardiff

Richard died in hospital in 1881 and his wife Mary Ann & William moved to the Forest-of-Dean area where I've found them in the 1881 living in the Newland area.  In the 1881 census Richard is shown as being in hospital in London where he later died. His occupation in the 1881 census is down as a miner not a policeman as shown on William's birth certificate.  I assume that Richard was born about 1852 from the date of his marriage in 1875.
I've been unable to find out anything about Richard before his marriage to Mary Ann Preddy in 1875, how he came to live in the Bedwellty area, or whether or not he was a policeman or a miner- I'll keep on trying.

Thanks again for your help
