1831 Ryde Isle of Wight Marriage Lookup

Hi

Would anybody be able to look up a marriage at Ryde, Isle of Wight between Richard Fegen and Jane Potts Banks on the 13 May 1831.
Looking for fathers and mothers names.

Hi Gabi, welcome to Rootschat.

Unfortunately pre registration  (1837) do not have marriage certificates only the parish record entry and they do not include parents names, or addresses , only the couples, whether of the parish, date and witnesses.

Sometimes you can get lucky if a witnesses is a parent or close family member.

You would be better looking for their baptism record.

Hi Gabi, I have just had a look at the marriage on Familysearch.org and it was in 1813 and not 1831 as stated.......

Richard Fegen of St. Lawrence, Ramsgate, Kent married Jane Potts Banks in 1813 at St. Thomas, Ryde

Thanks for that. Will need to check the baptisms, but a real problem as Richard was in the Navy and I have no idea where he was born.

I see he was from St Lawrence, Kent. How would i find out his age at marriage. There are two Richards born about 3 years apart.

Can I ask, how do you know he was in the Navy?

Found reference to his marriage and his promotions in the newspapers and old naval books.
The whole family is in the navy!

How would i find out his age at marriage.

No ages were given on the parish register entry, you may be able to determine his age at the date of his marriage if his birth date is given on any naval records.

I've no idea if this is your man, but the National Archives has an entry for HMS Leviathan (ADM 101/106/1B), in which a Richard Fegan, seaman, aged 22 is placed on the sick list. This entry is dated 1805.
