Robert Jones - 1841 census COMPLETED Thank-you
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 12:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am hoping to piece together this family to, hopefully, prove they are 'mine' and get one step further back.

I have Edward and Sarah Jones in Newport, Shropshire. Thay have a son Robert, born May 1832.

Sarah died in 1835, I have Edward in 1841, (HO107/904/book 4/ folio 3/ page 1), but Robert is not with him.

So, where is Robert in 1841?

Thanks,

Maurice

Hi Maurice

Did Richard die also, there are several burial records for Robert Jones in the Shropshire  area on familysearch.org or have you found him on any of the later census.

Hi Margp

Did Richard die also,
     Robert ?

The burials on Familysearch are Oswestry/Ludlow/Westbury/etc; West of the county. Edward lived in the Newport area all his life; so I guess Robert was also in this area. I have the Newport/Chetwynd burials and Robert is not to be found.

Which is why I hope he is to be found on the 1841 census.

Regards,

Maurice

On the 1841 census you mentioned, it as Edward and Sarah b in Cheshire and the 2 young children with them, I am assuming that these are there grandchildren, I have found a Robert Jones b the Cheshire that could fit, are you sure that Robert was born in Newport ?

Hi Margp,

No I'm not sure Robert was born in Newport, just that he was baptised there 23rd May 1832, so it seemed reasonable to assume he was born in that area.

However, I do know Sarah died in March 1835 in Newport, so it can't be her in the 1841 census.

Hi Margp

1841 census:
HO 107 / 904 / book 4 / folio 3 / page 1
Chetwynd End,   parish of  Chetwynd
Edward Jones   35   Miner  -  Limestone   Y
Mary Jones   55             Y
Mark Bentley    6 months
Thomas Astley   65   Ag Lab         Y
Richard Bates   20   Ag Lab         Y

...but it's Robert Jones, born 1832, I'm looking for.

Hi Maurice

I have been searching for Robert and not Richard, I have found  a death record no birth year though and you probably have this

Robert Jones
Apr Qtr
Newport
Shropshire
Vol 18
Page 114

I think that you have the same problem with the name Jones, as I do with the name Jenkins, there too many of them, and the 1841 census does not help, because it does not give the relationship within the family, so Robert could have been staying with other relatives and he would not have been shown as a son or say a nephew.
