John Wilson born 11/09/1840 Clones
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 21:47 BST (UK) »
I researching my gtgtgt grandfather John Wilson ,although born in Clones he was married in Lisburn to Catharine Bann in 1865 ...John's father was Thomas Wilson and he married Anne who I think was Mary Anne Simpson ,they married in 1837 on 23rd July in Clones....Any help with further research would be very appriciated .my gtgtgt grandfather John and wife Catherine moved to Scotland  and their son David Wilson was born there on 1875 in Johnstone and this started the Scottish side of the family. Was it famine or lack of work that drove so many people to leave Ireland.

Scotland and Ireland were both part of the U.K. so no records were kept of people travelling between the two countries. Have you found John and family in 1871 Scottish census? that, and birthdates/places of their children, would narrow down the date they moved to Scotland. What's known as the Great Famine was well before John's marriage-
