Upload the photo to something like imageshack http://imageshack.us/

You will be gven a code which you copy and paste into the message. This will translate into the image in your message.

Why go thru all that fuss when you are only going to use it "once"?
Isn't it easier just to swap email addresses via pm and send the pic by email?

Yes, but in the past I've fallen foul of certain ISPs who limit attachment sizes, etc.  So, Dropbox is very easy - you just share a directory on your PC with another person - what you put in your Dropbox folder appears in theirs, and vice-versa.  You can have up to 2GB of data in your (free) Dropbox, and (unlike some other photo-sharing sites) it's totally confidential with the other Dropbox user.
