I am searching for any information (or recommended sources) on the Foundry works in Rogerstone Hamnet, near Newport, between around 1847 and 1859.
I have identified newspaper articles advertising the foundry works in the Bristol Mercury of 27th September/2nd October 1847, under the names T. Carr and Wilthew from Newcastle upon Tyne. I know that a John Shaftoe Wilthew was employed as a 'Master' at the foundry according to the 1851 census, but he had returned with his family to the north east by 1859 (when he murdered his wife and was subsequently hanged in Durham Gaol).
Ideally I'm looking for the identity of the 'T.Carr', any information confirming the Wilthew mentioned as the same John Shaftoe (or another), and any information on the general history of the works itself around this period. I know that from the later 1880's it looks to have been taken over/restarted by a new firm (and later in the 20th century, Alcan), but it is prior to this I am looking.
If anyone can offer any advice/info/help in advance of any time I might find to make a visit to a library in the region, that would be much appreciated.
