Inquest East Dulwich 1932

Please can anyone advise where I could find the report of an inquest held on 8th April 1932 into the death of Francis Clement Smith?  He died in a house in Belvoir Road, East Dulwich.  I was told an account of the inquest also appeared in a newspaper, as it was a suicide.

I should be grateful for any help.

Any surviving coroner's records (they tend to have poor survival rates) will be held at the London Metropolitan Archives.

You could also try the archives of the South London Press, which are in Streatham.  They do not do searches so you would need to visit yourself.

But I do think that Valda's advice will be your first port of call, hoping they have archived copies of this very popular local paper.

Thank you for telling me about this, Plummiegirl.  I have in fact, following Valda's advice, got a photocopy of an account of the inquest that appeared in the South London Press from the Southwark Local History Library.  The staff there were quick to respond, and it cost only £5.50 to have a search and the result posted, which was cheaper than the train fare would be to go up and search myself.
