1811 Census Look Up Request Tiverton
« on: Wednesday 07 September 11 20:08 BST (UK) »
I'm still fairly new at this so I've only just found out there's such a thing as an 1811 census.  I realize that the only information available is a head count of men/women in a household but when I was helped on another county board last month the census does show what the head of the household did for a living and that was very useful.

So if there's anyone out there who can help me for 1811 with the following 3 names I'd appreciate it. They all lived in Tiverton.
John Bennett..... outside chance it could have been spelled Bennet
John Worth
William Worth.

Many thanks for any assistance you can give.

No census for 1811 exists for Tiverton. Only a few Devon areas had an early census that survived. See http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/DevonMisc/Pre-1841Census.html

Thank you for letting me know. I suppose I was just lucky when it came to Loughborough. If anyone else is trying to trace their lacemaker (Heathcoat Factory) ancestors it may be helpful to be aware that the 1811 census does exist for that town. I would never have known that our ancestor, one of the original workers who made the migration south but died before the 1841 Tiverton census, was in fact a needlemaker by trade.

As always, I appreciate your help.

You might try looking at Land Tax Assessments - see http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/index.html#Taxation

When I pulled up the list of towns/villages in Devon the name Tiverton doesn't seem to be there.

Not on the Australian CD perhaps, but the LDS has filmed them for Tiverton and you can access these at a Family History Centre near you Tiverton Land Assessment which you can locate at http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp
Alternatively, these can be viewed at the Devon Record Office http://www.devon.gov.uk/record_office.htm
