Abraham occupation is:- WOODMAN

I have a birth certificate for their first child and she was Ann GRAHAM born 29 Nov 1849

Saws Whitfield, Haltwhistle Union, County of Northumberland

I've not managed to find the marriage either.  The nearest I can get is Hannah Armstrong to Abraham Nicholson, Haltwhistle 1845.

They are on the 1851 census living in Whitfield:

Abraham aged 24 born Allendale
Hannah aged 26 born Kingwater, Cumberland
Ann aged 1 born Whitfield

I wondered if they had married in Cumberland but couldn't find them there either.  Sorry

Christine

Thank you for looking I through finding a record for an Abraham would be easy as it is not all that common, but I was wrong.

I had found them on the 1851 Census (they migrated in the Victoria Australia in 1852 on the Ship "Geelong".

I have been unable to find either of them in 1841 Census as I am not sure who their parents were.

Regards

It's harder searching the '41, isn't it?  No place of birth, no relationship to head and adult ages rounded down  ::)

There are two Abrahams, one of which I think could be yours.

H107/837/31/54  and  H107/837/32/66

Both 14 years old, one living with what appear to be parents Joseph and Elizabeth, the other living with John and Ann who, from their ages, are more likely to be grandparents.

As for Hannah Armstrong - millions of those in this area and I can't find any reference to Kingwater (from '51) to give any clues as to location.  :-\

Thank you Christine, for your time.  I couldn't find anything to do with Kingwater either and on further examining children's birth records some of them mention Lanacoste, Cumberland

Regard

Hi Jacolyn

Not able to help with the marriage unfortunately, other than to say there is a free index at a site beginning with *ancestry* and there is no sign of it there at Gretna Green.

Lanacoste will be Lanercost and googling brings up the information - Kingwater, a township in the parish of Lanercost. There is some information on it here:

Kind regards and God bless you,

Hi again

Two christenings from familysearch that will apply to the information Christine found on the 1841 Census:

Abraham GRAHAM chr. 5 May 1827 at Allendale (St Cuthbert), Northumberland son of John and Ann

Abraham GRAHAM chr. 26 January 1828 at Allendale (St Cuthbert), Northumberland son of Joseph and Elizabeth

There was also the christening at Whitfield (St John the Baptist) for Abraham and Hannah's first daughter Ann on 20 October 1850. The Bishops' Transcripts for the Diocese of Durham are on familysearch and the christening at Whitfield was there on page 188 of 221:
https://www.familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-12063-112249-38?cc=1309819&wc=11540249

Unfortunately the BT's for Allendale do not start till 1838.

Do the names of Abraham and Hannah's other children provide a clue? Sometimes naming patterns can be helpful to discover the names of the Grandparents. Did they have any sons named John or Joseph?

Do you have Abraham and Hannah's death certificates? Do the Victorian death certificates supply parents' names of the deceased?

Hope this helps?

Kind regards and God bless you,
Lynne x

The Abraham Graham, son of Joseph and Elizabeth, is still living with his parents in 1851 census. HO107/2415/162/23. So Abraham son of John and Ann is clear favourite.

Alan.
Northumberland - Smith, Willis,
Durham - Rogerson, Child
Cumberland - Irving, Hill
North Yorkshire - Layfield,
Ireland - Collins
