Any Hope of Finding Her?
« on: Sunday 11 September 11 17:10 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Iam researching a colleagues family history and am trying to find out what information is available in locating a person who emigrated to Canada.

She was born Ruth Warburton Gibbons in Sunderland, England in 1917.
She married an Albert W Butler in Hendon, London in 1939, but then, seemingly, left the country for Canada with a gentleman with the surname (possibly), Kaminski.

Any chance of finding when she went or where in Canada she settled?

Thanks

Sue

Birth ref in Jul qtr 1917 in Sunderland shows Ruth M W Gibbons, and she is married as Ruth M Gibbons in July quarter 1939,

There is another Ruth M Gibbons marriage to a John A Kaminski in Oct 1945 in Southend on Sea, Essex, and the entry for him shows the marriage to Butler or Gibbons, which would suggest that she has either been widowed or divorced by that date (perhaps Mr Butler was killed in the war?)

My information re marriages came from Ancestry.

I only have a limited access to FindMyPast and Ancestry didn't have the passenger details Isobelruss found.

I can't see any further details on Ancestry in Ontario for either of them, I've been looking in Obituaries etc.

Maybe Mrs C Smerk will give you another lead or her address might.Good luck with it ,wish there was more but that was everything.

Just another thought - there is a public tree on Ancestry for SMERK, and an entry on that for a Thomas John Smerk who apparently died in 1985 in Ottawa, Ontario.  Very little other detail on the tree.

Given the possible rarity of the name, it might be worth writing to the tree owner to see if there is a connection with the Mrs C Smerk in Ontario whose address is mentioned on the 1946 passenger manifest.

I was thinking the same thing, Isobelruss!!  :D
