Parish Chinkford, County Essex

My 3xg-grandfather, Simon Moulds, was indicted in 1796 for stealing a cow in the Parish of Chinkford, County of Essex.  He and his partner, William Presnall, also stole cattle in the Parishes of Little Ilford and Westham.  I can finf Ilford and Westham in the Collins Essential Road Atles for Britain - but where is Chinkford?  Would it have been an old name for Chingford?

Hi I think you will find it is Chingford in Essex, but Chinkford could be the old name, but I am not aware of it?

The funny thing is I live approx 5 miles from Chingford, and us Londoners do seem to pronounce it Chinkford!

In the 1813 Report of the British and Foreign Bible Society, Volume 9 ; Contributors through the Medium of the South-West Essex Auxiliary Society, there are a number of donations listed from people in  Chinkford. http://www.rootschat.com/links/0f0c/
If you look at http://www.british-history.ac.uk/search.aspx?query1=chinkford there are five references. A footnote says;
This name has been strangely corrupted in records, and written very variously; viz. Chingefort, Chilgelford, Echingelsford, Schingelford, Shymgylford, Chinkford, &c. &c.
