Gallimore help please
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 20:09 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with finding out info on Mary Gallimore please?
She was born in Ashbourne I think - father George and mother Jane - this could be any time from 1820 onwards
She marries george stevenson who seems to be a mason and has at least one child - thomas stevenson who was born in Wellingborough 1846 - he is living with his gallimore grandparents in Ashbourne in 1851 aged 5. He is my gt gt gndfather.  I have his birth cert.

i am having lots of trouble with this line - so any help would be much appreciated

ps I am fairly new here so please accept apologies in advance if I don't respond quickly
thanks    :)

I might have found the family at Ashborne in 1841 but the quality of the image is awful:

What might be Mary's parents, her siblings and herself as follows-

George GALLIMARD b1801 Derbyshire
George GALLIMARD b1826 Derbyshire
John GALLIMARD b1833 Derbyshire
Jane GALLIMARD b1829 Derbyshire
Jaune GALLIMARD b1801 Derbyshire (presumably Mum Jane)
Mary NEVENSON b1820 Derbyshire

So Mary appears to be married before 1840 but has no living children at this stage.

thanks for that - but I am not sure - according to 1841 she is 20 - so would be 14 when married????

I also think she may have died pre 1851 as she does not appear to be on any census returns.  But I have not been able to find her death either.

It would be great if I could find her death/living in 1851.  Any help gratefully received.

Ages in the 1841 census were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest five so Mary's age could be anywhere between 20 - 24. Some enumerators did it some didn't but it looks as if this particular one did.
Mary could have been up to age 18/19 at marriage.

Yes I hope that's the answer - struggling to find birth though. :-\

Looked on Familysearch and found a christening in 1821 in Wirksworth (fairly nr Ashbourne) and birth is listed as 1809 - although this doesn't tie in at all - wondered if this was an 1819 with a transcription error, but can find no further info.
Parents listed as George & Millicent not George & Jane.

Where shall I look next do you think????  Ancestry no help with this one!   :(

Just looked again on Google and there is a Mary Gallimore Dau George & Millicent - listed as a late baptism in wirksworth - but George is listed as a Blacksmith - he is a labourer in 1851
Don't think this is the one

Not sure if there were any other Mary Gallimores in the area but in 1848 Ashbourne there is a marriage of Mary Gallimore to Robert Hobson Smedley,by 1851 Robert is a widower and there is a death for a Mary Smedley first Quarter 1851.
George Stevenson is a mason in Northamptonshire in 1841.

There is a baptism for a Jane Gallemore 18 April Saint Oswald Ashbourne derby Father George Gallemore, mother Jane, so we know there was a couple George and Jane and the 1830 baptism fits the jane age 12 born c1829 on the 1841 census.
