Brooke-Smith family from Christchurch
« on: Thursday 15 September 11 22:54 BST (UK) »
Hi
Just added a Mabel Ethelind BROOKE-SMITH to our Boer War soldiers and extras for the Hauraki region

Have found lots at Papers Past on this lady, one of first nurses to serve abroad 1900-1901, having trained at Christchurch Hospital

1906 she was Matron at WAIHI HOSPITAL..which is why we have included her

Any family researchers, looking for  photo..1916 she married (Oswald YOUNGHUSBAND) and died 1968 Auckland.

Many thanks
Althea

This lady is on my database of Boer War Nurses. She appears on two medal rolls and in the NZDF Archives:

WO 100/229 QSA Medal Roll p113 created at No14 Stationary Hospital, Maritzburg; dated January 28, 1902
WO 100/229 QSA Medal Roll p207 created at Charlestown; August 23, 1901

NZDF Archives

I would appreciate any information you have on her especially date of birth and father's occupation to aid my PhD :-)

Cheers
