Mary Ann Trimmer c1792, Birmingham
« on: Friday 16 September 11 10:16 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help someone with a tree firmly rooted in London find a Birmingham branch, please?  ;D

Mary Ann Trimmer married Henry Moore 21 Apr 1810, St James Clerkenwell, London.

In the 1851 census she states that she was born in Birmingham abt 1792. She died in 1854 and the burial record give the same year.

However I can't find a birth for her. I've tried Family Search, Free Reg etc and trawled through all the resources suggested here. Does anyone more experienced with Birmingham resources have any idea where else I can look please.

Thanks

Sue

Hello Sue
As you've discovered there aren't any Trimmers anywhere in Warks.I've checked the NBI which is a good indication & there aren't any burials in that name either.
The name appears to be from the home counties particularly Hampshire.
The possibilites are that she was born in B'ham to travellers, boat people etc. & christened elsewhere or not at all,she was christened in a non-conformist chapel not listed by IGI,she was born elsewhere but spent much of her life in B'ham, she was married before & Trimmer was her previous name or her parents were from Europe & the name has been Anglisized.
Not much help I know but you may have to consider these possibilities.

Thanks Jim

It was worth a try!

She was a spinster when she married. I've checked as many non-con records as I can find and as you rightly say it does seem to be a Hampshire area name. There are a couple born abt that time including one with the fathers name of Swithin - sadly my Mary Ann didn't name any of her children Swithin.... ;D
