Where in Southampton was this photo taken?

A photo of my grandad with his sister. On the back of the photograph says: Southampton 1983.
Any readers with a knowledge of Southampton recognise this area from the photograph. I am hoping someone from Southampton with a knowledge of area may recognise the area would be a huge help.

Did Grandad John have a surname?

Yeah sorry he was John Grant Payne, he visited his sister in 1983 so he was about 63 years old.

There are some Southampton street directories online.

If it was his sister's house her surname might help in identifying the house providing she had lived there for some time.

Well it could either be his foster sister where I wouldn't know her name, and if it's his sister I only know her name as Mary M Payne. I suppose recognising the road or street where the picture is could round it down a lot though.

I wonder if the building on the background is an old school. 

It is interesting that there is no raised pavement.

The building in the background looks to me as though it is a part of two semidetached senior citizens' bungalows. The house looks like a council house. There are a lot of such streets in Southampton and most major towns. I think it depends if a neighbour happens to be a Rootschatter. Sorry about the pessimism.

Hi mersey man

I have looked at this picture several times, this ladies face lookes so familiar,I wonder when this picture was taken. It lookes like a council house.I was born in  the Woolston=Sholing area of Southampton.A lot of council properties in Southampton were this pebble dash outer surface so it is hard to say exactly where it is.Some sugested areas are Woolston/Sholing/Peartree and further a field is Shirlley Warren and Maybush.I will keep wracking my brain to see if I can pin the area down more precisely.

It's very similar to those in Spring Road.

Using streetview maps I haven't found the house though.
