Burial Look Up for 1909 please.
« on: Wednesday 21 September 11 16:39 BST (UK) »
Just wondering if I could possibly ask for a burial "Look Up" please.

I am trying to find burial information for Elizabeth Springthorpe who died aged 52 in the December quarter of 1909. Leicester 7a 105.

Her husband Isaac died in 1922 in North Evington Infirmary aged 64. The address given on the probate details was 81 Wand Street.

Many thanks again in advance for all replies.  ;D

They're not listed in Welford Rd burials (maybe you knew that).

My grandfather lived at no 82 Wand St at the same time as your family were there so they would have been close neighbours! Unfortunately I've not found the burial place for my family either - I don't know what the "local" burial ground would have been - there is Belgrave Cemetery not too far away, my ancestors aren't there but maybe yours might be? Otherwise I suspect that Gilroes is the most likely resting place, and the details of burial plots there aren't yet available on CD (as far as I know - put it on my Xmas list when the CD is ready!)

Does anyone else know of cemeteries local to this part of Leicester?

Hi Annie65115,

Thankyou very much for your reply, no I didn`t know they were not buried at Welford Road Cemetery. At least it rules out that location.

Hope you don`t mind me asking  :-[ but I was wondering whether you have any photos of Wand Street? I have relations who used to live in the area but sadly not one single photograph. I`ve tried various websites/books and copied the odd one or two of a street corner so when you mentioned your grandfather lived in Wand Street I was hoping perhaps you might have a photo to give me some idea of where my ancestors lived.

Regarding anyone else knowing of cemeteries local to this part of Leicester, I think probably Mike from Leicester or Diddy are favourites to answer that question if they are available.

Many thanks Steve

Belgrave would certainly be the nearest

Sorry....... I have had a good look around my burial database

Therefore can only come to the conclusion they are both buried in . …..

Regarding pictorial evidence of Wand Street. ……

I can ask a work colleague on his return off holidays in two weeks time if he has any as he was born and brought up in Hunter Road
which is four Streets down from Wand Street. …..

Hiya Mike,

Many sincere thanks again for your reply.

I really ought to have known we wouldn`t be able to find a burial for Elizabeth because in an earlier thread I enquired about a burial for her son Harry in 1956 but again we drew a blank.

Looks like Gilroes it is then :-\  and going by your previous replies on other threads the research service is expensive and totally out of the question something like £20 per hour or £20 per person I think you quoted at the time.

As for a photograph, that would be brilliant Mike. I think I`ve got a dark coloured one of Redcross Street towards Peacock Lane and another of the corner shop on Syston Street..............................thats my total collection of Leicester, so anything your colleague has of Wand Street area or even Westbourne Street area would be great.  ;D

Many thanks again Mike, it goes without saying really but nevertheless it is certainly not taken for granted but your time and effort in helping with my posts is greatly appreciated.

All the best Steve ;)

Hi Steve
We haven't spoke for a while. How are you?
Sorry for butting in on your query.
But  still looking out for names of yours.
In the Leicestershire Chronicle there was someone who was researching her family tree  of  Frank and Amy Banbury nee Chesterton they lived at 20 Guthlaxton St, also James and Iris O'Connar nee Banbury.

Steve more names for you to think about.

        Good luck
          Zena

Hiya Zena,

We haven`t exchanged messages for ages have we, I am very well thankyou, hope you are keeping well too.

I am pretty sure that Frank and Amy are not part of "My Clan" as I`ve come across these when searching for "My" Frank and Annie, but I will just double check. I`ve not come across James and Iris O`Connar before so they`ll need researching.  ;D

Thankyou for placing your post Zena and replying to this thread, you`ll have to send me a pm, when you get chance, with all the gossip and news from Leicester  ;) ;)

Many thanks Steve

Email the Council Steve, they did a lookup for me for free. I asked them if a relative was buried in Gilroes and gave the date and they told me she wasn't. Worth a go!
