Help with 29th Regiment
« on: Thursday 22 September 11 19:49 BST (UK) »
I have a Thomas Barclay from Paisley marrying there in 1809 and his occupation simply says Sergeant 29th Regiment.  I've had a look on the Internet but can't seem to pinpoint exactly what this Regiment was part of.  Does anyone have any further ideas on where I could find out further info?  Thanks in advance.

Ayrshire: McCubbin (Girvan & Glasgow mainly); Peacock (Girvan); Findlay, Gibson (Cumnock); Paton (Dalry); McCracken (Colmonell); Coughtrie/McAughtrie (all areas)
Wigtownshire: McCracken (Portpatrick)
Lanarkshire: Stewart, McGimpsey (Glasgow) Simpson, Pender, Tennant, Mowbray, Gillespie, Kemp, Braidwood
Fife: Brand (Auchtertool)
Stirling: Stewart (Balfron); Kirkwood (Denny); Nimmo (Falkirk)
Orkney: Byas and Sabeston (Stromness)

And many many more!

Try looking under "The Worcestershire Regiment".
This site : "www.worcestershireregiment.com/"  has an account by one of the officers covering the period from 1807 to 1813 which will give you some idea of what they were doing.
