Thomas CRAWFORD
« on: Friday 23 September 11 09:01 BST (UK) »
Hello
looking for anything on my GGG Grandfather Thomas Crawford, sent to Tasmania as a convict in 1830, eventually married  Elizabeth Jones, i would like to know where he originally came from {he was convicted at the old bailey and lived in Shoreditch} and when he and his wife died. They had several children together one of whom was my GG Grandfather Thomas Peter Crawford, however i dont have the names of all his other children.
Thanks

Not sure how much you have.  This info from Tasmania portals

Thomas CRAWFORD, b 1813
departed London 6 Jun 1830, arrived 19 Oct 1830, ship: Southworth

His marriage to Elizabeth JONES (free) was in August 1853, in Hobart.

Children listed are:

F CRAWFORD F   1853
Elizabeth CRAWFORD 1854
John CRAWFORD 1856
M CRAWFORD 1858

Obviously this does not include your grandfather.

Hi Jeff,

His description record gives his native place as Curtain Road, Middlesex.  "Native place" is where he was born.

Go to http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=11
Search for his name, click on blue link (15743), click on description list CON23/1/1, view this record online, and it is page C1117-1061

I have modified my post to fix the link as it is not permanent and times out.

Hello Jeff,

How ironic that we both started threads about possibly the same man on the same day.    ;)

I've just been linked to this thread as I am looking for T Crawford who was a photographer in Hobart - I only know that he was working in the 1890s - is this your rellie maybe??

My reason for looking for him T Crawford is that he was named in the will of my GG grandfather.

If you have anything to add to my knowledge it would be great - I am trying to find the link and reason for the bequest.  If I find out anything, I'll let you know!

Cheers

Hi Wiggy

you are right there are too many Thomas Crawfords in Tasmania !
I have three of them but looking through all the postings you recieved for your Thomas Crawford i dont think any of them are your photographer.
My GGG grandfather whom i posted about was a labourer and he died in 1896.
His son Thomas Peter Crawford was a beaconsfield miner and married Mary Ann Smith they are my g grandmothers parents so not your photographer either.
Finally my GGG Grandfather Thomas Crawford also had another son John who had a son Thomas James Crawford but he was not born until late in the 19th century so too young to be your photographer.
So sorry about that but no,  :(  i dont have your photographer.
Anyway your post has led me to Thomas James Crawford whom i wasnt aware of so thanks for that, if i find any more Thomas Crawfords in the family that  turn out to be photographers i will let you know.

regards
