Good News! Marriage found after 20 years of looking!!

Hello!

I just wanted to randomly share my good news!!!!! After more than 20 years of searching I have at last found the marriage of my great-great grandparents, George Edwards and Ellen Vick and I am SOOOOO happy!! 

I had got to the point where I assumed that they might never have actually married.  Both were born in Gloucestershire in 1845 and their first child was born in 1867. In the 1871 census (where they were living in Norfolk) and thereafter (when they were back in Gloucestershire) they are listed as married - in fact in 1911 they say they have been married for 45 years (ie since 1866). Obviously I concentrated my search on marriages in the 1860s, but could I find a marriage for them.......no.

Anyway, after another effort at searching more widely, the certificate finally arrived today - they were actually married in 1886.......in London!  He obviously decided to finally make an honest woman of her for their 20th "anniversary"! I presume they went off to London to marry where nobody would know them, as I know of no other connection to London. How romantic!

The moral is - never give up searching!!

Helen, that's brilliant.   Never give up indeed!

I'm pretty disheartened about some of my brick walls but if it can happen after 20 years, I'll just have to keep trying.

I can imagine just how you feel and I think hearing things like that lifts all of us - thanks so much for letting everyone know!

Gives me hope, have been trying to confirm 2XGGFs identity for 16 years. On that basis only 5 more to go I might even make it.
