Jonas HOLMES - completed with thanks
« on: Friday 23 September 11 13:11 BST (UK) »
Hi -

Was wondering if anyone could look up the marriage of Jonas HOLMES in Newark for me? He married someone called Mary sometime between about 1860 and 1871.

Jonas and Mary appear in the 1871 census together living in Cross Gun's Yard. I can find Jonas with his mother in CGY in the 1841 and 1851 census, and he appears with Mary in the 1861 census with Mary and her daughter Mary Ann. The transcript gives Mary's name as Mary HOLMES, but I'm not sure that it is that from looking at the census itself. this means that I am slightly hazy as to the exact year of marriage!

I would be interested to know Mary's maiden name and the details of any witnesses who may have been present.

Also, would anyone be able to look up a baptism for Jonas himself in Newark around 1823?

Many thanks in advance

TreeGirl :)

Wow! That was quick! Thank you so much!

Don't suppose you would be able to look up a marriage for a Mary HOLMES? Still in Newark and probably sometime between 1851 and 1861... No problem if you can't.

Thank you

Thank you -

Think the Mary and William PRIESTLEY might be the one - but can't find either of them in the 1861 census....any burials for either of them??

Hello again

I have just looked at the 1861 image and Mary is down as Sooby with daughter Mary Ann Sooby aged 1 month.
