The Stage magazine - you can access their archives.  There is a fee, but it is well worth it.

Did this for my theatrical ancestor.  Think last year I paid £5.00 for 1 days' access.

Worth a look at the National Portrait Gallery. They have photos of many 20th century people, a good proportion online. I found one wonderful picture of a distant relative.

Have you tried checking with Equity, the actors' union? They started circa the early 1930s. I wrote to them a few weeks ago about an actress in my past; no response as yet but I live ever hopeful.

You could try the British Film Institute. They have a research library and some of the information is searchable online. You might get lucky.
