Corn Porter
« on: Friday 06 May 05 23:55 BST (UK) »
In the 1850s Thomas Aldridge was a Corn Porter in King's Lynn.  I assume this means he carried corn, but in what way?  It suggests a market situation.  Has anyone come across the term?

Definitely Corn Porter - and I've discovered by googling that it was a job to do with the docks, so presumably shifting wheat onto / off of ships.
