Honor McHale 1862.

Hi All,
Can anyone help me trace the McHale side of the family, nothing is known by those who are left.
My gt grandmother, Honor/Norah McHale, was born  in Crimlin 1862ish, she married Peter Kearney in 1882 and lived in Turlough, Castlebar. until they moved to England after 1905.
Her parents names were John and Bridget unknown and he was probably a farmer/farm labourer.
A story  has been handed down the years that a relative was a Bishop or Arch-Bishop. I know of Bishop John McHale, but you know how stories can become the truth.
Any help will lovely.

Hello Ann and welcome to rootschat 

Honor was born before civil registration which would have given you her mother's name. I assume you have her details from a marriage certificate? Sometimes the witnesses can be a clue to extended family.

Hi Heywood,
Its so frustrating isn't it. The other side of my family are English and I've managed to trace them to the 1700s
I downloaded a copy of a civil marriage  between a Peter and Honor in Jan 1882, their witnesses were Michael Hopkins and Mary McHale but my cousin has a record of a church marriage in October 1882 with different witnesses.

Do you know that they definitely married in 1882 then?

Maybe to start with first child's birth record and start with place of residence perhaps?

Are there different places of residence on the two marriages?

Hi,
That I do know, my cousin went to Spink ( the village were they lived which doesn't exit any more) the records were in a neibouring church, it said they married in the october and their 1st child was born in the November. but gave no clue as to Honors history. I was wondering if they would have had a civil marriage as well.

Yes, there should be - civil marriages began in 1864.
