The best place to go for research ?
« on: Saturday 01 October 11 13:59 BST (UK) »
Hello there.....

I will be in Staffordshire for a couple of days this month, to do some research. Well two nights really, and one full day.....

Where is the best place to go please ?

The gent I am researching, is Robert Baines , born 1888, at Chesterton. I know that he was a councillor, probably in the 1930's. early 40's. He also owned quite a few businesses, fish shops, cinema's, and that he was a auxilliary policeman ? at a miners strike at some point. Brymbo ?

He was quite a naughty boy, and was found inflagrante delecto (sic) with one of his lady assistants, who he later married. His son , now in his 90's, and his grandchildren are desperate for more information, and a photograph would be wonderful !

Please point me in the right direction.

Jan...

Thankyou. That is looking good. We are actually staying just outside Lichfield, and it looks as if I may be able to find out something there...at least his divorce may be registered, and they may have copies of the papers from around that time.

I am desperate to finish this before Fredericks 93rd  birthday in November !

Kind Regards

Hi

When did he divorce and what was his wife's name, there are some divorce records at the NA that you can order on line, but it all depend on the year.

Hello MargP

Thankyou for that.

Robert Baines remarried in 1945, so I imagine it will be a couple of years before that.

I hope he DID divorce. I will have a look at NA site.
