"A Queensland Exile, Edward Milkins 1816-1862" by Hazel Brombey.

I have not found any BDM index to confirm the 1862 date for Edward, ...  I have tried WILKINS and WILKIN as well as MILKIN sorry.

Cheers,  JM

Neither can I JM, I have tried many different ways using the cd's  :(

I think Arliene will have to contact the Toowoomba & Darling Downs FHS who seem to have some information from the researcher Hazel Brombey who has quoted those dates in her article.

Thanks so much everyone! I didn't expect such a wealth of information. James (son of Edward) and Elizabeth Jane Milkins are my great grandparents. In James' obituary, it's mentioned that his father died but I'm unable to find any trace of his death.  http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article20029327

I want to thank judb,MERLIN,majam, sparrett and Essie for their help. I have filled in a lot of blanks and added greatly to my knowledge of family research. Edward Milkins did marry Margaret Ann Hagen at Drayton Q. I think convicts were allowed to re-marry after 7 years, even though they might still have a wife overseas, which he did. The family oral history has him suffering a stroke & dying some time later. Margaret Hagen, his wife, is still a mystery though. I can't find anything about her at all. Any clues? All James' details are correct. One thing I did discover, his wife, Elizabeth Jane Anderson is descended from convicts Edward Blanchfield (Guildford 1818) died 1861 and Susannah Anderson (Lord Wellington 1820) died 1852. Their son Edward Blanchfield moved to the Darling Downs,Qld and started using his mother's name, Anderson. He was married as Edward Anderson in 1845 to Jane Donald of Banffshire Scotland, and their daughter Elizabeth Jane, married James Milkins. Occasionally Blanchfield is used as a middle name. I hope this helps someone.
Thanks again everyone.
Regards,

arliene

According to son James' obituary in 1915 [linked on previous thread]  it would appear that Edward died at Eton Vale Station and James took over his father's position.  The Eton Vale homestead ruins are listed on on the Qld Heritage register

Google Eton Vale Station for lots of info.

James and Elizabeth Jane Milkins are also my great great grandparents. My grandfather was Eric Milkins who was the son of Samuel Milkins. My mother and I have been trying to find out Edward Milkins family back in Bristol. Bedminster. You said that he was married over there. On a Convict Records link it says that he died 1862 at the age of 46 years. Thanks Jo

Hi Jo,

Welcome to RootsChat.

I am very sorry to tell you that we have now sadly lost contact with Arliene :'(  I have googled the information given but nothing comes up on searches that matches her RootsChat profile.

I am very sorry that we were unable to pass your message on at this time. However old members get intouch everyday updating profiles so hopefully Arliene will do so very soon.

Regards

Sarah
