Property in St Winnow, CORNWALL, ca 1800
« on: Tuesday 04 October 11 10:39 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help me with this?  I have an ancestor (Philip Foot) who mentions in his will (dated 1820) that he leaves 'All my Freehold Lands tenements and Hereditaments which I am pofsefsed [possessed] of situate lying and being in the Parish of St Winnow in this County'.
Philip Foot actually lived and died in Mevagissey, but obviously held some land in St. Winnow.  I am wondering (i) how he came by this land (there are other 'Foots' in St. Winnow in 1841) and (ii) how I can find out exactly what he owned?  Any advice on where to look would be much appreciated.

I've just had a look on the Cornwall record office catalogue

http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Search.tcl

and there's a reference to Ann Trubody of Fowey leaving Higher Penventinue to her 3 brothers, Philip, John & Richard Foot & she also seems to have 2 nephews called Philip & Richard Foot of Mevagissey. The river Fowey separates the parish of Fowey from St Wnnow, so it could be this land.  Ref TF1573 dated 2/11/1810. You can get a copy of the document from the archives. Any records of property should be at the record office if still in existence.

By the way, it is possessed. The letter might look like an 'f', but is a long 's'.

hmm, think, the leasehold may have boen sold the following year to William Kent. I searched on Foot in 'Any Text' & Fowey in 'Title' & various references come up although at least one is foot of the hill.
