Fraser Family - Lock keepers, Dochgarroch
« on: Saturday 08 October 11 12:51 BST (UK) »
Does anybody know anything of the family of William Fraser and his wife Isabella MacDonell of Dochgarroch Inverness? William was a lock keeper and was drowned in the Caledonian Canal in 1915 with his granddaughter. He had three sons Alexander, Donald and Angus who were deaf and dumb. Therre were another three sons, William, Evan and Thomas all born at Dochgarroch between 1871 and 1885. Isabella MacDonell was from Invergarry and died at Inverness in 1924.

Hi Abrach

Gosh, such sad events at times, eh  :-\

Just checking that you have come across the gravestone photo and inscription for William Fraser. Also WW1 details of his son Thomas.

Thank you Monica
yes, I have seen the gravestone in Tomnahurich. A very sad family. Angus, one of the deaf and dumb sons was also drowned in the canal in 1949, and Alexander, also deaf and dumb was killed in a motor bike accident. Thomas killed during WW1. William seems to have married and had a daughter who was drowned with her grandfather, but I don't know what became of William or his wife. Thanks for your help.

Whilst still sorting out my files I thought you might be interested re a list of Fraser deaths, Inverness, I have for the years 1860-1870.  I have listed the ones with all reference to the Canal - i.e. Dochagarroch, Canal, Clachnaharry.
