Robert Tate

Does anyone have any information about Robert Tate.  He married Sophia Ralph in 1871 (not sure where). 

I have been able to find information on Sophia (born 1845 in Sandwich) died 1881.  They also had four children - Isabella Jane tate (b. 1874 in Deal, kent), Ada E Tate (b 1877), John R Tate (b. 1879) and Joseph W Tate (b. 1881).

I would like to trace Robert Tate back further, but can find no information.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Awarded the 1882 Egypt Medal and Khedive's Egypt Star for his service on HMS Carysfort.

Bit of further information which may or may not be of interest.
Robert married Sophia at St Andrew's Church, Deal. Sophia had had at least two children with her previous husband Henry CHURCH, Corporal, R.M.
9/6/1872 Henrietta CHURCH, 16/6/1878 Elizabeth Alice CHURCH. (Baptism dates) They were living at 12, Dolphin Street, Deal at the time.
There are no Tate baptisms in the other Deal churches other than Joseph already mentioned. This implies possible posting away and the other  children  being baptised in another parish even if they were born in Deal. They obviously returned by 1882 for Joseph to be baptised.

Thankyou very much everyone.  This will give me a few leads to follow up. 

Robert Tate's military record shows a marriage date of 4.1.74, which is different from the one I had, but no name for his wife.  It does seem likely that this is the correct Robert Tate, as he is in the right area - Gillingham, Chatham etc.
