DURHAM in Inch, Portpatrick etc 1800-1841
« on: Saturday 08 October 11 16:24 BST (UK) »
My lot - James and Margaret DURHAM and family are in Inch, Wigtownshire in 1841.  There are some other Durhams around but many were born in Ireland eg Richard Durham in Portpatrick.  OPRs have practically no Durhams until after 1841, and these are mostly the above family.  Any information on whether they were Catholic or other denomination would be most welcome.  Also anything else earlier or anyone else searching for Durhams in the area.  Thanks.

Thanks Terry  I have the Inch MI book and know about these ones - David and Elizabeth Durham were brother and sister and children of the James Durham and Margaret (Ferguson) referred to in my original message.
My problem is tracing the earlier generations.  The only clue I have is that James Durham's parents were David Durham and Margaret Wright - from his death certificate.  I can find NOTHING on them anywhere in Scotland which is why I am trying the Irish and/or catholic route - in desperation.  Other branches of this family are much easier - I have the Fergusons (Stoneykirk) and Moats (Inch) pretty much sorted.

Thanks Sy
I also had the Stranraer stones (and have photos - very handsome stones) but none of the others.
The Glenluce John Durham (b.1868) is a grandson of James and Margaret, brother to our direct line.  The others don't seem to be so close - possibly cousins -  will have to check them out.  We still haven't found any early ones though.  The Dorham at Caerlaverock is early enough -  will have to follow up that spelling and see if I can connect it.
With thanks for all your efforts.
