We don't know much about the Younger Andrew Reid (1895) and I couldn't find anything on Ancestry regarding him in the First World War.

Just heard back from the Met Police records office that the medals on Andrew Reids tunic are Queen Victoria  Jubilee medal, the Edward 7th Medal and George V medal.

Those three medals could be all be police ones - one a long service one, one maybe a Jubilee medal (he would have been in the police during Queen Victoria's golden and diamond jubilees and they always issue medals for that sort of thing).

Thought so.   It's always nice when a guess pans out!

The Met record office are not sure what the badge etc is on the younger PC helmet. I have tried to enlarge it on the computer but it distorts the picture.

What a fantastic difference it makes to see them in colour.  Looking at the black and white photo, I had been peering at the medal ribbon for what turns out to be the Victoria medal, thinking that it was yellow!     It's good to see these now, for future reference.

This has been an interesting journey, since receiving these photos from a relative whom I met for the first time a weeks ago.  She will be so thrilled with all the information I have found.  Andrew Reid was her great grandfather and my great grandfather's brother.

Yes, it's lovely to be able to give people a story like this.   And it's an added bonus if you form some sort of new family relationship, too.

Jessie, regarding Andrew Reid the younger, at the very least if he had service in WW1 his medal card will have survived, and possibly (1 chance in 3) his service record too.
