Marriage lookup request Petworth, Sussex

I'm looking for marriages for the following, all in Petworth:

John Hearsey b 19 Jul 1767, father George Hearsey, about 1786
John Hearsey b 7 Apr 1765, father William Hearsey, about 1786

George Hearsey b 15 Nov 1772, father George Hearsey, about 1802
George Hearsey b 26 May 1771, father William Hearsey, about 1802

William Hearsey b 30 Jan 1775, father George Hearsey, about 1797?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated...

Hi Judy,
Remember that athough living in Petworth that Brides usually Married in their own Parish so the Marriages may not have occured in Petworth.

MARRIAGE;
GEORGE Hearsey/Elizabeth RANDALL, 08 June 1767, Petworth
JOHN Christened to George/Elizth 19 July 1767
(they cut that one fine!)

WILLIAM Hearsey Christened 30 January 1775, Petworth, Sussex, to George/Elizth was BURIED 26 February 1775

1841 Census George born c 1771, living in Petworth, is Married to a HANNAH
Possible Marriage George HERSEY/Hannah KEMPSHALL,
06 Oct 1791, Horsham, Sussex
Hannah is NOT born in Sussex so this may not be the correct Marriage.
This is also a Marriage 07 Sept 1795, Witney, Surrey, to a Hannah EDWARDS
(to confirm date of marriage you would need to find all Children born to them to confirm possible Marriage date)
But in my opinion in 1841 Hannah is born c 1776 so the 1795 Marriage looks more likely.

You are really fast! You've cleared up the George/Elizabeth marriage and identified the death of Willliam 1775. A big help.

Georges 1771 and 1772 are so close in birthdate that I'm still not sure which one married Hannah... Could be one of those mysteries that is never solved.

Could you try one more? I'm trying to put James Hearsey b 1769 to George & Elizabeth in London in 1796 as a coachman where he married. But there's a James Hearsey in Sussex who are might be him. I need to rule him out.

Do you see a marriage for James Hearsey about 1795? Probably to an Ann.

He and Ann were born in Sussex. Looks like he and Ann were "removed" from Fittleworth in 1800 (with two children) and went to Coates where a child was born in 1802. He may have then gone to Hampshire for a bit then back to Sussex.

Hi,

There is a marriage at Pulborough between James Hearsey (bach Kirdford) and Ann Sayres (spin Pulborough) on 7 Jul 1796, witnesses: Wm S. & Nich WARNER.

Pulborough and Kirdford are very close to Fittleworth.

The Sussex OPC site only shows one baptism for Kirdford, maybe there's something wrong with their filter/search?

Can you look for a James Hearsey baptized in Kirdford? Would have been about 1770 or so.

Hi Judy,

There is a James Hearsey baptised at Petworth (neighbouring parish) 6 Aug 1769 to George and Elizabeth - but he is the one you already have. 

The Kirdford parish records have not been transcribed yet which may well be why you cannot find him.  It would mean a trip to Chichester  - assuming of course the registers have been deposited there.  I have just checked - they have the original registers and the Bishops' Transcripts for Kirdford.

That would be a wonderful help. If we manage to eliminate him (James from Kindford) from consideration by other means, I'll re-post.

Yes, I'm in California, and my 2nd cousin, who is also working on this, lives in Pembrokeshire. Closer, but still a bit of a hike.
