George P Finnegan
« on: Monday 17 October 11 14:58 BST (UK) »
I have traced a relative of my husbands as George P Finnegan born 1820 in Mountbebo, County Wexford. He married Cornelia Daniell in 1844 in Dublin.

Does anyone know how I can find out more information on them?

I don't know if the whole family moved to India but in 1870 his son George Stephen Finnegan married in Karachi, upon which time the family seemed to change the name to Fanaken.

I dont see a town or townland in Wexford named Mountbebo, you can double check on the townland database at http://www.thecore.com/seanruad

For details on George and his family you would have to check what church records are available for the parish they lived.

Have you found a parish record for the marriage in Dublin ?

Sorry meant Mountnebo, my typing and proof reading is awful!
No I have not found the marriage record unfortunetly.
I don't really have a clue where to start with the Irish ancestry, would trying to find this marriage record be the best start?

see the links above for details on searching Irish records.

Full civil registration started in Ireland in 1864 (in addition non-Catholic marriages were registered from 1845) so you are dependent on church records, which makes the search a bit more difficult. None of the major Irish Genealogy websites include Wexford parish records at the moment.

If the marriage took place in Dublin city, or one of the county parishes they have, it may be included on the free parish website at www.irishgenealogy.ie

In the townland of Mountnebo there's a house, or estate with the same name  (as Mount Nebo).. see :

    Townland of Mountnebo

(select either of the historic options - 6" c1830, 25" c 1890)
