Brown 27 College Street/ 180 High Street Dumbarton
« on: Tuesday 18 October 11 17:25 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm looking for information on my GG Grandfather John "McGillivary" Brown ( b 1899) who lived in 27 College Street/ 180 High Street Dumbarton married to Annie McNamara (Dublin born).

He had 3 brothers (Harry, Alec and David) and a sister Isebella

Children were (John, William(My grandfather), Bernard, Harry, Margret, Anna, Georgina, Isa, Mary and Jane. All of whom were born in scotland barr Magret (i think)

The Familiy immigrated to South Africa, about 1920 +/-  however one of his brother stayed behind.  Alec (i think).

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Jim

Hi Jim

If your gg grandfather was b.1899.
Do you know what year he married?
(eg, 20yrs old) that would take you to 1919.
If he had 9 out of 10 children born in scotland before he emigrated (given they were all born 1yr apart or perhaps twins) then this would take you to abt. 1928+

You could try looking for their names on a passenger ship lists starting from that year.

don't know if this is any help

added: i'm assuming you mean't all the children belonged to Annie and John Gillvary Brown
