Looking for any info on a William Henry Clarke buried in Maenclochog Parish Churchyard  Dec 1949 age 69.  Living at Gilfach Lloi, Maenclochog.  I cannot pick him up from any of the census records so believe he must have come from away. ???

Hi

You presumably have some connection to him so what is it?  Are you descended from one of his children?

Who did he marry and when?  A copy of his marriage cert will give his fathers name

Given his surname - you would need to provide further info to enable a connection to be made to any census entry

Have you checked the local paper to see if there was any obituary notice?

Have you checked the 1881/1911 census - if he married before 1911 - you should be able to get details of him from that census

The 1911 is strictly pay per view and lookups are not allowed on Rootschat

The free 1911 index has a William Clarke b 1881 living in Haverfordwest

Looking for any info on a William Henry Clarke buried in Maenclochog Parish Churchyard  Dec 1949 age 69.

Just to offer a little confusion to your research.

I note a William Clarke is listed as living at Fort Hubberston aged 6 months 3rd April 1881, with two elder female siblings, but the parents are not shown or are unreadable. I will check the original non index’d non ancestry census when next at the Record Office.

Now there is no William or Wm Henry Clarke baptised at Hubberston in 1880, however there is a Thomas William Clarke baptised at Hubberston in 1880

By Free BMD there is a Hannah Drusilla Thomas born in 1886 in Pembroke Reg District but I can not find a baptism around that year, I do note the baptism of a Hannah Drusilla Thomas at Pwllcrochan in 1896 so perhaps she was baptised as a 10 yr old.

Free BMD also shows a mrge of a William Henry Clarke in one of the church, chapels or registry offices covered by the Pembroke Registration District in 1899.

I note the birth of one William Henry Septimus Clarke at H’west St Martin in 1850, yet have been unable to establish a mrge for him in the county, could he be an elder relation who moved away ??

I shall give it a bit more thought, see what you and others can come up with and have a check on my next visit to the Record Office, hopefully this week.

Thank you all for your interest.  I have a tenuous connection as he is my son in laws great grandfather but they know nothing about him.
The grandfather and son of William Henry Clarke was William James Clarke and he was also buried at  Maenclochog churchyard in April 1984 despite living with his wife  at Johnson.  We believe William James was born out of wedlock and that at sometime before he married in 1918 he changed his name from Francis to Clarke.  He was in the first world war but whether he was Clarke or Francis we do not know.
On the maternal line we believe his mother was a Lizzie Franks / Francis living at Skerry Lodge, Maenclochog.  But why he changed his name we do not know.

A birth of a William Henry Francis was registered in the 4th Qtr of 1881 in the H'west registration District, so that must be your starting point.

There is no William Henry Francis baptised in the established church around the time of your interest, therefore one could presume possible Chapel.

It is certainly not unknown to move between Chapel and Established church.

I note the baptism of an Elizaberth Francis at Dinas in 1841, but can find no reference to the surname Franks.

Whilst at the Record Office today I found and photographed the two obits of Wm Henry and Wm James Clarke. Drop me a PM with your email address and I will send them on.

I searched Absent Voters list for 1918 for Maenclochog, there is no reference to the surnames Franks, Francis or Clarke listed, so if he was in the Forces in 1918 his family was not resident in the village. Mind Wm H.'s obit confirmed this piece of info anyway. I will check Milford and Hubberston next visit.

Hello, my great grandmother was Elizabeth Clarke. She passed away in approx 1989. She was married to a William Clarke and lived in Maenclochog, Pembrokeshire and I believe she was also married to someone with the surname Frances/Francis. She had been married twice but one husband passed away and she remarried. One of her sons William lived in Johnston.
