George Scales - Johnshaven

I have recently started to research my mother's side of the family and have hit a dead end with George EW Scales and his father, John William Scales. I know that George married Janet Ann Jarvis in Johnshaven in 1892 but can find no record of him in any census in Johnshaven. His wife's family are listed in the 1891 census as living in Back Street.

His father was John William Scales ("Seaman") who married Annie Rate(?) Futty - she is listed as deceased on George's marriage certificate. Family legend has it that at least one of these came from Scarborough but, again, I can get no firm leads.

Can anyone help please?

What other info do you have on George? What was his age on his marriage cert in 1892? Have you found him and wife Janet Ann in later census to be able to reconfirm age and also place of birth? Did he die in Scotland to let you double check his parents' details?
