Looking for any information on the origin of the surname Hitchmough, thought to have originated in Cheshire. Any ideas?

1841 census has only 11 born/living in Cheshire, but 163 born/living in Lancashire?

Reckon Lancashire is a better bet! ;D

1571 is first record on www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html  411 records - all the early records are Childwall or Prescot which are now within Liverpool boundary
first babtism on Cheshire Records Database www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb is 1770`s ...so Lancashire looks to be the best bet for early Hitchmough...many Hitchmough here in South Liverpool...and all nicknamed SCRATCH....for obvious reasons....lol....allan :)

A lot of the Cheshire Hitchmoughs in 1841 were in Tranmere - that's practically Liverpool, isn't it?!?  ;D ;D ::)
