I've just downloaded the will. Seems to be pretty good value for £3.50.
Thanks for the tip.

don't think you have to pay - just read it online?  Unless you want a photocopy?

The only options they gave me were (a) pay for a photo-copy or (b) pay for a down-load; there was no offer for me to read it on-line, so I chose option (b).

when you find the will you want, it should have under the title e.g.

Thomas Daniel : will, 1825

image 1 image 2

If you then click on image 1, you get the first page of the will & you can use the symbols above to enlarge or rotate or whatever you need.

Wonderful. I'll know what to do in future.
I believe that the Thomas DANIEL of the will is my 4 x great grandfather, and is the grandfather of the Thomas DANIEL/DAVIES who is the subject of my original enquiry, the link being the beneficiary John DANIEL.
I believe that I have found this John using the surname DAVIES in the 1851 at HO107/2488/f51/p2, and his brother Isaac DAVIES at HO107/2488/f83/p1. I cannot find their brothers Joshua and Samuel.
If you can spare the time, could you please have a look on the 1841?

I had a look the other day with no success, but found this one today. Don't think it's the Samuel of the will, but must be of the family - thought the will said Penhernwen nor heur!

1851 Pernhernwenfawr, hamlet of Treflys, Llangammarch  HO107/2488 folio 30 pg 13
Samuel Davies head mar 37 farmer 128 acres b. Llangammarch
Mary wife 36 b. Llanwrtyd
Mary 12 employed at home b. Maesymynis
Elizabeth dau 10 b. Maesymynis
Ann dau 8 b. Llangammarch
Margaret dau 6 b. Llangammarch
Sarah dau 3 b. Llangammarch
Catherine dau 1 b. Llangammarch
Jenkin Jenkins lodger mar 37 hatmaker b. Cardiganshire, Llanbadarn Trefeglywa
/
Elizabeth Davies head widow 66 b. Llanwrtyd

Elizabeth is in the same house, but enumerated as a separate household, could be Samuel's mother.

1841 has Samuel, 2 Marys & Elizabeth at Garthfach, Llechweddôr, Llanwrtyd. NO helpful family, but there's only a couple of farms in between him & Cwmbychan - Rhoderick family there. HO107/1365/23 folio 8 pg 1

Another possible relative?
1851 Penporth, Ystradfellte HO107/2463 folio 405 pg 4
Joshua Davies head mar 48 shepherd b. Llangammarch
Jane wife 38 b. Llangammarch
Sarah dau 1 b. Devynnock
Catherine Jones visitor widow 64 pauper shepher's widow b. Llangammarch
David Jones vis mar 32 ag lab b. Devynnock
Sarah Jones vis mar 27 ag lab's wife b. Llangammarch.

Very many thanks for all your work.

The Samuel of Penhernwenfawr is a puzzle. The will states "Thomas DANIEL of Penhernwenfawr" but this Samuel would have been aged only 11 at that time, and would Thomas have made an eleven-year-old his sole executor? Is it possible, therefore, that this Samuel is the son of the Samuel of the will, and thus the grandson of Thomas? This would explain his presence at his grandfather's farm. I shall see if I can confirm that scenario.

Thanks again for all your help.

I'd be pretty sure that an executor would need to be of age - 21 or over.

Finding Penhernfawr in 1841 might help. I'll go have another wander around the sheep farms of Llangamarch.
