William Coventry
« on: Tuesday 08 November 11 19:14 GMT (UK) »
I have been able to trace back my family tree, I have to William Coventry ( and Maria White) as my 3x great grandparents.

They came over to Scotland from Ireland, and married in Glasgow, in 1847.

I would be interested in any pointers ( or, indeed anyone following a similar line), to suggest where to look next.

Unfortunately when William and Maria subsequently died, their respective death certifcates were lacking in information. Suggesting their family were in the dark as to their earlier lives.

Yours

Gail

Does the marriage record for William and Maria give any details on their parents or counties of origin ?

Their births would be well before the start of full civil records in 1864, so you really need to have a bit more detail to attempt a search in Church records - i.e. denomination, which parish(es) they were born in etc

see :

Thanks for helping Shane.

Unfortunately, I have no previous information regarding their marriage. Certainly no parents names or counties.

In 1851 census, I have them living in Glasgow with their first born. all I have as place of birth for William and Maria is "Ireland".

Regards

Did they happen to have any children born 1855 in Scotland? (that year had a fantastic amount of detail on certificates) birth certificates for other years might show date and place of parents' marriage (you can chekc for what's included on birth certificate for different periods on Scotland's People website)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks to both Ballyatt.......G  Jim, and aghadowey for your kind input.

Jim...I've had a look at your very interesting link, but don't see a commin link just now,( but have saved link for later).

aghadowey, it seems that 1855 is one of the few years that I don't have any pertinent births. I am now aware, whoever, that the information given on a BDM certificate, is only what the informant believes is correct. If he/she is lacking in certain information, then that is either omitted, or guessed.

Thanks once again
