William H Gotobed
« on: Tuesday 08 November 11 21:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello I am looking for the parents or parent of William H Gotobed born 1856/7 at Stretham Cambs. I found him on the 1861 census with his Grandfather Thomas and Grandmother Rebecca at Front Street Stretham. The family were Butchers and Farmers, William was 3years old
Thank you
Sheila

his grandparents thomas gotobed and rebecca wheeler had  3 sons and 3 daughters
sarah b,1831
emma b,1834
caroline b, 1835 died 1869
william b,1838
david b, 1842
thomas b,1844

It looks as though he might have been the illegitimate son of one of the daughters, but it will take the purchase of his birth certificate from the GRO to confirm it, using the reference (which is his birth registration, not his christening)  quoted by Doran54 (cost £9-25). Stretham baptisms, which is the other way to go, aren't extracted onto either the IGI or BVRI, but a transcript is available from Cambs FHS, cost £14

Thank you all, I did believe he was illegitimate, it could possibly be Caroline or I thought Sarah Ann her sister. by the pt it seems Caroline is his mum she married an Edward Langford in 1859 so leaving William with her parents. I will get the cert to prove this.
Thank you both again
