Help needed finding photos/info about a Sergeant Harry Edwards (no. 7380)
« on: Saturday 12 November 11 16:38 GMT (UK) »
Hello all. I am looking for any photographs/information about a Sergeant Harry Edwards (was known as William Henry on his birth and marriage certificate) no.7380 who served in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry during WW1. Apparently there's supposed to be an article about him in the newspapers when he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery in 1915/16 however I am unable to find it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. ;)

Hi

Have you tried asking on the military boards?

As far as the news paper is concernerned, it depends where it was published.  You could try the local libraries to those counties.  The main local studies libraries probably have  local papers and you have a good date.  They may also have a copy of a national article.

If you email them they'd probably check and if it's there, send it for a limited sum.

Problem with nationals is it's a bit late for the free library editions -  mainly 19C newspapers.

You could try the regimental museum though, or ask for a look up 0on the local boards.

Good luck!

Hi edwards96  :)

Fount this.

7380 A/Sjt. H. EDWARDS 2nd Bn.
For gallantry and ability on 11th November, in a counter attack he captured a house which enabled the enemy's trenches to be enfiladed.  Has been previously noted as a very capable leader in the field.  (16.1.15)

Thanks Harry, we owe you.

Oxon & Bucks (my dad's old outfit, btw) was absorbed into the Royal Green Jackets - see www.rgjassociation.info.

Best regards,

Hi all

Have you tried this site; http://www.sofo.org.uk/
If you drop them a line they have voluntary researchers and they do a great job. If you ever get Oxford way the museum and documents they have is brilliant.
