« on: Sunday 13 November 11 15:03 GMT (UK) »
Looking for a death for a Thomas Murray born 20 June 1890, Canonbie.  His parents were Benjamin Murray and Agnes Irving.

On the 1911 census Thomas is living at Bowholm, Canonbie aged 20, Single and his occupation was as a Railway Ticket Examiner.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Cannot find a headstone for Thomas Murray in Canonbie churchyard.  Did wonder if he went to war?

Found a Thomas Murray death but it is the wrong one.  This Thomas was single died 22 May 1915 at the Railway Collison at Gretna. He was aged 22, Single, from Leith in Edinburgh and his parents were Robert and Helen Murray.

I have also had a look at the Commonwealth war Graves Commisions and my Thomas is not there either.  Does this mean he did not die in the war?
The only thing I know about Thomas's death is that he died young! But I am unable to find him

Hi

I see the MI as:

In memory of Agnes Irving beloved wife of Benajmin Murray who died at Plashetts December 1st 1914 aged 48 years. Also Mary and Isabella who died in infancy. Also the above Benjamin Murray who died at Plashetts Feb 21st 1927 aged 64 years.

The Thomas Murray reference refers to the son of James Murray & Helen Scott and is a different MI

http://longtown19.website.orange.co.uk/memorials_from_canonbie_martin____nichol.112.html

I think that Google was merging a couple of  the entries on the website. It does this quite often as it looks fo all the words in the search.

Hi gnu

Thanks for the reply, it's a shame it was not the Thomas I was looking for.  Had built up my hopes, never mind back to looking once more.

Thanks again

I don't see anything that jumps out on SP. I'll check on some other sites later this evening.

Hi  :)

You said that you'd looked at the CWGC site and there was nothing. Have you considered this record:

Thomas Murray, Private. Gordon Highlanders, Service Number 266903
Grave/Memorial Arras Memeorial, Bay 8 and 9
Died 9 April 1917

Other records suggest that he was b. Dumfriesshire and enlisted in Glasgow

I think that you'd need to check the war memorial in Canonbie as there is no info on his family in the records.

There is also a ref to the GRO War Death Index:

GRO War Deaths - Army - Other Ranks.  Info as given ~

Murray, Thomas, Private, 266903, Gordon Highlanders, 1917,  Vol 1.3 page 388

I'm not sure if obtaining this death record from the GRO would give you much information as I've not used this resource before.

There is no age, so, again, no proof whatsoever.

I'll keep looking for other possibles.
