I wish to obtain service records for Ernest Parkin born 1895 in Sheffield He was a Cook in the Royal Engineers but I have no further information. Could you please let me know how I may go about this. Thank you.

Ancestry also provide access to the medal cards. In fact their cards are better as they are in colour, and sometimes (about 2% of the time) show information on the reverse, although mainly for officers.
Five men of that name served in the RE and received medals. Three have middle initials. About one million men stayed in the UK and did not receive WW1 medals. If he served after 1920 his record will be with the MOD.
If you know his family home in 1918-19 his army details may be listed in the electoral roll.
